Alchera FAQ*** Where is the backup function? ***It is in Supervisor. See the Windows Start menu, Programs, Alchera. *** How do I delete a dream? ***Try the Delete button at your keyboard (deleting does not work with the trial edition of Alchera). Point to a dream in the dream list, and simply press the Delete button. Labels attached to a dream can be deleted in the same way. *** Is German supported? ***Alchera has been tested to work with English, German and Dutch. While the symbol dictionary has only descriptions in English, the Symbol page of Alchera is able to link German or Dutch words to the related symbols in the English symbol dictionary. Spelling checking is only possible for English. All other functions work regardless of the used language. For example, the Related Dreams function works for all languages. *** My hard disk crashed / I got a new computer ***You need the following to install Alchera:
If you've have both of these, then simply run the setup program, and after installing enter the software key during the first run of Alchera itself. If you don't have both, then send an email to support@mythwell.com, and you will get a new copy of your registration email. This email will point you to the latest full edition of Alchera, and also contains your software key. *** How will I receive version 4? ***Every customer automatically receives the monthly email newsletter. The newsletter mostly focuses on software development news. Once Alchera 4 is ready, it will explain how to download and install it. Naturally, you only receive the newsletter as long as your email address is valid. If you change your email address, then notify Mythwell either by using the mailinglist form at the website, or by sending an email to support@mythwell.com. *** How do I repair corrupted files? ***It is possible that the data files used by Alchera got corrupted, for example by crashing Windows while Alchera was in the middle of saving some data. This can result in strange error messages the next time you run Alchera. After consulting with support, you may receive the advice to do a repair. Here's how that's done. 1. Make sure Alchera isn't running. Fire up Supervisor (see the Windows Start menu, Programs, Alchera). 2. Do you have a recent backup? If not, you may want to make one now, but be sure not to overwrite a previous backup. Afterall, the current data may have problems, so any old backup may be better than the new backup. See the File menu for creating a backup of the user data. (For more information on backups, see the documentation). 3. To do the repair, use the Tools menu, Repair. 4. When the repair function has finished, close down Supervisor. 5. To be on the safe side, also rebuild the search index within Alchera. Start up Alchera, and use the File menu, Rebuild Search Index. This will take some time, depending on the number of entered dreams. After the repair, weird error messages should be history. *** Are there dream discussion groups? ***Unfortunately, there are too few Alchera users to sustain an active dream discussion community. However, there are dozens of dream discussion groups available at Yahoo. None of them will help you with instant dream interpretations (there are other forums for that), though some of them do discuss personal dreams. Dreamchatters is probably the most popular general dreaming group. Among its subscribers are many well known dreamworkers and authors of dream books. Another interesting group is world-dreams, which was started after 9/11, to find peace using dreamwork. Also very popular is lucid-dreaming, which as the name suggests is about lucid dreaming. Dutch people may want to try the group called Droom. The German language area has a surprising lack of dream discussion groups. The only group that is somewhat active is Traumgruppe (see the German side of Yahoo). For more information, visit: http://groups.yahoo.com/. Search for worlddreams, or navigate to the Science/ Social_Sciences/Psychology /Sleep_and_Dreams directory to find other dream related mailinglists.
*** How do I select multiple dreams? ***It's possible to select multiple dreams at once for printing, emailing, or exporting. If you want to select a set of dreams that are next to each other, then the easiest way is to hold down the Shift button from your keyboard while moving up or down the list by pressing the up or down arrow button on your keyboard. If you're working on a laptop with a complicated keyboard, try holding down the Shift button while using the mouse to click on the first and last dream of the group you want to select.By holding the Ctrl button, you can toggle whether or not a dream is part of the selected group. *** How do move my dreams to a new computer? ***Make a backup on the old computer, restore that backup on the new computer. For historic reasons going back to Windows 95, the backup and restore functions are available in a separate program called Supervisor. See the Windows Start menu, Programs, Alchera. Tip: After installing Alchera on the new computer, first restore the backup you made before running Alchera. When Alchera starts up without finding any data, it creates an empty database that you probably do not need. *** What does the name Alchera mean? ***Alchera refers to the native Australian concept of the Dreamtime. The Dreamtime is the place were the world was created, and still is being created. The Aboriginals have many different names for the DreamTime. The Arunta of Western Central Australia call it Alchera, Altyerre, Altjeringa, Alcheringa, or Aldjerinya. The Gija, who live in the same area, refer to it as Ngarrangkarni. The Warlpiri in central Australia call it Tjukurrpa. |
